World: Malting industry talks for the first time about a possible temporary shortage of malt supply
In the malt export sector Southeast Asia, Africa and South America purchased additional quantities for shipment in 2006, altogether at least 100,000 tons, experts admitted august 01.
In domestic markets brewers covered substantial quantities against non-deliveries by the Weissheimer group and against quality problems of other maltsters (Last year's crop included much high protein barley). So for the first time since years the industry talks about a possible temporary shortage of malt supplies.
